Information for Healthcare Professionals
Introduction
Painful abdominal cramps are a commonly reported gastro-intestinal complaint1. While many cases can be attributed to functional digestive disorders, of which irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the best characterised, not all sufferers fall within this definition1. There may also be some degree of reluctance among consumers to accept the label of IBS for their symptoms. As a result, some sufferers may shun treatments that are specific for this condition2.
Therefore a significant proportion of people who suffer from regular abdominal cramps may not be aware of the most appropriate over the counter (OTC) treatment options1. For these people the introduction of Buscopan Cramps (hyoscine butylbromide) offers sufferers of abdominal cramps and spasms specifically targeted relief for their symptoms. This HCP section seeks to put abdominal cramps and pain into context, alongside other conditions that may present in a similar manner.
